Francesco Lomonaco (LOMO) – Visual Artist Between Cosmos, Matter, and Urban Space* Francesco Lomonaco, known as LOMO, is a visual artist active since 2009 whose research moves freely between collage, mixed media, video art, public art, and installation. His work emerges from a dual tension: scientific thought as the grammar of the real, and artistic sensibility as a way of interpreting the world. Raised in Montescalgioso, near Matera (European Capital of Culture 2019), Lomonaco absorbed from childhood the visual language of the Sassi’s cave civilization — a primordial architecture of stratification, reflected light, and necessity transformed into beauty. This silent yet powerful origin permeates his entire body of work, visible in his treatment of surfaces, the contrast between shadow and light, and the construction of pieces that never reveal themselves entirely at first glance. After studying Business Administration and working in the family business, Lomonaco chose to follow a deeper vocation: translating thought into visual form. Between 2010 and 2014, he encountered some of the most radical collective experiences in contemporary Italian culture — Macao in Milan and Isola Art Center — where art became a tool for critically narrating urban space and social conflict. In 2014, his work was selected for the exhibition *Una Vida en Común – A Life in Common* at the World Urban Forum 7 in Medellín, Colombia, curated by STEALTH.unlimited and Cittadellarte, marking the beginning of his international recognition. In subsequent years, his research turned inward, becoming more intimate and formally conscious. The *Afeli* series (2020–2022) — gold leaf on black-painted wood, dedicated to the solar system — represents the endpoint of this trajectory: an apparent decorative simplicity that conceals a deep reflection on distance, gravitational solitude, and the cold beauty of bodies that do not shine with their own light. Like planets. Like certain lives. Lomonaco is not an artist who "brings art to the periphery." He is an artist who finds in the periphery the exact measure of the center. His work is an invitation to see differently — the sky, the city, the self — through the intersecting tools of mathematics, music, cinema, and numerology. **For a patron or collector:** Acquiring a work by LOMO means entering a system of visual thought where every element — a gold leaf, an orbit, a paper fragment — is simultaneously aesthetic form and a question about the world. Ideal for those seeking art that does not exhaust itself in decoration, but interrogates, with elegance and rigor, the way we inhabit space and time. --- Let me know if you'd like a shorter version (e.g., for a bio or social media preview).
